Bylaws Voting

As reported in the December 2011 ExComm Meeting minutes, the Southwest by South Florida Bylaws have been revised. This is the first revision since 1997.

The only changes in bylaws were in reference to officer titles (LocSec would be President, Assistant LocSec would be Vice President). The terms of office for officers were also amended to two (2) years term with elections in odd-numbered years.

As per the guidelines of National, the bylaws must be approved by a vote of the membership. The ExComm asks that you review the bylaws and submit a vote of approve or not approve by March 31, 2012.

There are two ways to review the bylaws:

1. Review the bylaws online at this link: http://bit.ly/swsfbylaws

2. Pick up a copy of the bylaws at Hurricane Cycle, 17230 S Tamiami Trail #1, Fort Myers, FL

There are three ways to vote:

1. Vote online here: http://bit.ly/swsfvotehere

2. Complete the voting form attached to the March/April 2012 M-Compass and mail to Jeff Avery ℅ Hurricane Cycle, 17230 S Tamiami Trail #1, Fort Myers, FL 33908.

3. Email your vote to cheryl.mensa@gmail.com. Please be sure to include your full name, membership number and your vote. Your vote will not be counted without this information.

Only one vote per member. Please submit your vote on or before March 31, 2012.

In case you missed it, the Community section of the Naples Daily News today (08/17/2011) featured siblings James and Leann LeSage. These two young Mensans (ages 6 and 3, respectively) are part time Naples residents.

In downtown Naples: Naples Regional Library (Rees Room) 2 1/2 blocks west from US41 on Central Ave (get off at the Golden Gate Ave exit 105 and go right to US41) Note: the AVEs count down by block from the North and Central Ave is between 1st Ave North and 1st Ave south.

Einstein fought Quantum Mechanics all the way until his death (and thereafter?). He even proposed an experiment that showed Quantum Mechanics could not possibly be correct and this experiment has been done only recently because it is so technically hard to create two entangled photons and measure them both at a great distance.

Is Einstein rolling in his grave? Saturday May 14, 2011 is when all will be revealed.

Battles In Quantum Mechanics (follow up)

For all who attended the Battles in Quantum Mechanics event last Saturday, Jim Goodman asked me to send out the following:

I realized after the talk that I had found experimental evidence that there were spooky errors in QM and Relativity that had been attempted to be explained by statistical error (standard error in me...asurement). The talk pointed out that in the 1890-1900 period there were errors in experiment that opened new fields of theory in the period 1905-1930. We now are in a similar period I think (2001-2050) where the random tick of an atomic clock in a satellite makes the difference of the clock extreme as time passes and where the spooky action at a distance that proves QM can be explained by static electricity.

The ideas need to be supported to be proved. Help me with your thoughts.

Great Moments in the History of Math and Science - it's our monthly get - together on Marco Island. Anyone interested in math or science is welcome to give a talk. The first one is "Battles In Quantum Mechanics," in which Jim Goodman will tell us how major physicists differed from Einstein in their concept of the universe. It'll be neat.

Directions - cross the bridge onto Marco. Drive SLOWLY - the speed limit of 25 is enforced. At the third taffic light, make a left onto Bald Eagle Drive. Drive a half mile to the traffic light at the intersection of Bald Eagle Drive and San Marco Road. Cross San Marco and stay on the same road. A couple of blocks farther, look right and you will see an Indian Shell Mound with a museum on top. Turn right at Mistletoe and right into the museum parking lot. If you pass the Marco Island Public Library, you've gone too far.
